Na Caminda

Namesakes of streets, buildings and other geographical landmarks in Aruba

Project

Na Caminda primarily comprises a journalistic gathering of biographies of prominent Arubans whose names have been assigned to geographical landmarks such as streets and buildings.

Additionally, this research also focuses on the history of certain Aruban neighborhoods and the lives of former and current inhabitants.

As for the project's title:

'Na Caminda' is a Papiamento term. It stands for 'being under way' or, more literally, 'being on the road'.

An Historical Tour

The Aruban landscape offers a host of street names and building names that have their origin in the past. They honor men and women who at their time in life made a significant impact on the island's development.

We are of course talking about Adriaan Lacle, LG Smith, Ferguson, Guillermo Trinidad, Francis Figaroa, and so forth.

Who were these people? And how exactly did they make their contribution to society? Aruba Heritage Foundation has set out to discover just that.
